Van Wieringen is a Dutch-born, Bali-based, Australian artist and close friend of Brett Whiteley. Based in Bali since 1969, he is well known for his paintings of local Balinese life, culture, flora and fauna. After studying fine art at the University of Sydney, he associated, collaborated and exhibited with contemporaries Brett Whiteley, John Olsen, John Firth Smith & Donald Friend, whose influence on a young Van Wieringen is evident. He has completed large public commissions worldwide, including Singapore, Melbourne, Antwerp, London, Chicago, Venice, & Los Angeles. His works are also represented in several important private collections, including works owned by Queen Fabiola Of Belgium, Sultan Of Brunei, Richard Branson & Clint Eastwood. He is also represented in the Art Gallery Of NSW.
