This incredible religious piece is thought to have been painted by a Cusco School painter in Peru, in the late 17th century. The Cusco School was a Roman Catholic artistic tradition based in Cusco, Peru, with paintings characterized by the use of exclusively religious subjects, their lack of perspective and the predominance of red, yellow and earth colours. The style was directly influenced by European Byzantine, Flemish and Italian Renaissance Art, which was introduced to South America by the Spanish Colonials in the 16th century.
