Hasegawa is a prominent French-based Japanese Painter & Printmaker. He was a student of the Kokuga Institute in Tokyo before moving to Paris in 1961 to study at the legendary Atelier 17 (frequented by Picasso, Ernst, Miro, Calder, Rothko, Pollock, Chagall & Giacometti) under Stanley William Hayter. He participated in many group and solo exhibitions worldwide, especially in Paris & Tokyo. His style is abstract using the synthesis of Far Eastern calligraphy, traditional symbolism of shapes and colors, with Western new expressions. His work incorporates "tachiste" and decorative graphic motifs in the tradition of Japanese popular imagery. This stunning, naive watercolour depicts the French landscape where he has spent most of his life.
