Vasudev is an acclaimed, award-winning Indian Abstract Painter. He is an alumni of Madras Arts College and one of the longtime artists associated with the Cholamandal Artists' Village. He is one of the most prominent painters in Karnataka and has held art shows in many parts of the world. His works are represented in collections of various important International galleries and institutions. He has won many awards in India and abroad. He explores the essence and nature of a man-woman relationship through contrasting forms and colours; the 'Maithuna' which represents for the union between the female and male principles. Also known as the 'prakriti' and the 'purusha' - that exist in nature, almost in a yin-yang fusion of being. This huge, colourful work was purchased directly from the artist's studio in Bangalore in 1970. This piece interweaves abstract form and landscape with naive, child-like depictions of animals important to Hinduism, such as elephants, crabs and cats.
