Schiele is an iconic Austrian Expressionist & Vienna Secessionist. He was a protégé of Gustav Klimt, and a major figurative painter of the early 20th century. His work is noted for its intensity and its raw sexuality, and the many self-portraits the artist produced, including nude self-portraits. The twisted body shapes and the expressive line that characterize Schiele's paintings and drawings mark the artist as an early exponent of Expressionism.
This rare work was produced as part of 'Egon Schiele als Zeichner‘, a folio of 24 works printed and published by the Österreichische Staatsdruckerei (State Print Office Of Austria), Vienna, 1951, edited by the Austrian art historian Otto Benesch (1896-1964). These were produced in only a very small edition, and as such these prints are very hard to find as the majority are in collections.
