Max Ludby RI, ROI, RA was a prominent, forgotten English Watercolourist. He was born in London, but studied in Antwerp between 1882-84. He was an active exhibitor from as early as 1879, showing at the RA, ROI, RI, Grosvenor Gallery, London Salon, Royal Society of British Artists, FAS, Dudley Gallery, Dowdeswell's Gallery and Agnew's in London. He also exhibited at the Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool and Manchester City Art Gallery. He was elected a member of the Royal Society of British Artists in 1886 and in 1891 he was elected RI. In 1893, he exhibited a series of 82 watercolours entitled From Oxford to Greenwich at Dowdeswell's Gallery, and in 1897 a series of 60 watercolours entitled Some Sketches of Venice at Dickinson and Fosters'.
This impressive, large format watercolour was exhibited at the Royal Institute of Watercolours in London, the same year his work "Le Pont Neuf, Paris" was exhibited at the Royal Academy.
