Wang is a famous Chinese Contemporary Artist. He was part of a generation of Contemporary Chinese artists caught up in the repressive, controlling years in Communist China, where creative expression was severely restricted, even discouraged. In his city of Beijing, the Tiananmen Square incident of 1989 sparked mass protests and an exodus of many of the country's most talented artists, including Jiawei Shen, Guan Wei and Wang Zhiyuan (who all migrated to Australia). However, Lifeng remained despite the danger and made politically charged works, predominantly as abstract landscapes and mixed medias. He is represented by Red Gate Gallery, Beijing. He has exhibited widely in China, Europe, and also the United States. His works are in incredibly high demand and regularly appear in high end auction houses. ‘Chinese Letters’ was completed in 1997 and was exhibited at the Red Gate Gallery in 1998. This impressive, large, intimate painting comes from his 'Beauties Captured In Time' series, reflecting a nostalgia for the past, an increasing movement away from realism, and a desire to find an artistic language appropriate to his new life situation. It is a diptych and is very large. The previous owner purchased the artwork from the Red Gate Gallery in Beijing.
