Kumagai was an award-winning Japanese artist. He was a member of the prestigious Nikakai Organisation, where he won the Gold Medal at the 51st Nika Exhibition in 1966. He was also a member of the Committee of All Hokkaido Artists Federation, the highest honor for a Japanese artist. His works are represented in numerous significant institutions, such as the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum & the Sompo Museum Of Art.
