Komuro is a respected Japanese Sculptor. He is a member of the Modern Art Association in Tokyo. He developed and original art form in three dimensions which could be described either as 'construction' or wall sculpture. His work is unique in that it is the combination of recycled, weathered wood and fine calligraphy embodies a restrained Japanese quality. Komuro uses the scripts of the classic Noh drama for his calligraphy. He has exhibited since 1964, having had one-man shows at the Fran-Nell Gallery in Tokyo in 1968, 1969 and 1970. His work is also represented in the NGV in association with the Japan Art Festival, 1976. In Buddhist customs, 'Omairi' is the process of visiting a shrine to worship. The process involves bowing, performing Temizu, approach the shrine, ring bell and prayer, before bowing to complete worship. This fascinating, spiritual mixed media sculpture using found objects and calligraphy comes from the Fran-Nell Gallery in Tokyo, and reminds me somewhat of the work of Australian artist, Rosalie Gascoigne.
