Rangda & Barong are two important, opposing forces in Balinese Mythology, locked in an eternal battle between good and evil, articulated in the Traditional 'Barong Dance'. Rangda is the personification of evil; the child-eating, demon queen and leader of witches. She is the incarnation of Calon Arang, a legendary 10th century witch who terrified Ancient Java. Barong is the personification of good; king of the spirits and guardian angel. They are a crucial part of both Balinese culture, art and folklore. These two, large paintings are macabre and grotesque, portraying the two nemesis' is great detail; the highest quality examples of Balinese painting.
