Grey studied at the Central School of Art in London, and arrived in Adelaide in 1923. He took up a position at the North Adelaide School of Fine Arts, where he taught a new generation of important Australi an artists, including Nora Heysen. He held his first exhibition in Adelaide in 1924, and his early sketches were used in the design of the War Memorial on North Terrace. He was a member of the Royal South Australian Society Of Arts and served as President until his premature death in 1957.This impressive plein-air watercolour depicts one of the most inspired locations associated with the Heidelberg School of Australian Impressionists, having been painted by the likes of Tom Roberts and Arthur Streeton, this work reminiscent in both style and quality.
