Greenhill is a forgotten, award-winning Modernist. He studied at night classes of the Royal Art Society in the 1930s, where he met his wife. In 1942, whilst studying at East Sydney Technical College (National Art School) he won the prestigious New South Wales Travelling Scholarship. On his return, he settled in Oyama Avenue, Manly, where he maintained a studio and nurtured a long term relationship with the Manly Art Gallery. He was known for his quaint, Modernist landscape scenes in and around the Northern Beaches, usually of everyday Australians in their day-to-day activities. In 1950 & 1956, he won the coveted Sulman Prize at the Art Gallery Of NSW. He was also a regular finalist in the Archibald Prize. His works are represented in several important galleries and institutions including the NGV & AGWA.
