Fischer was an acclaimed Danish Post Impressionist. He originally studied under Viggo Johansen before completing his studies in the Netherlands, Belgium, France and Germany. He received numerous awards, including the Akademie Scholarship in 1917. A multiple exhibitor at the Danish Royal Academy, he was primarily known for his representations of young women in half or full figure in interior settings. Fischer liked to work with simple forms in subdued colours occasionally contrasted by strong colour accents. His style appears thus quite modern and focused on the interplay between form and colour. This impressive, large still life is housed in a fantastic 'cassetta' frame, a style which originated in the Italian Renaissance, and spread north via German artists such as Albrecht Durer.
