Caffieri was a prominent English Watercolourist. He is considered a master in British watercolour having studied at the Académie Julian in Paris under Léon Bonnat and Jules-Joseph Lefebvre. He relocated to Boulogne-Sur-Mer in 1897 and became an active member of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts et des Arts Décoratifs du Boulonnais. He exhibited regularly at the Society of British Artists, the Royal Institute of Painters and the Royal Academy. His style was inspired by the popular Newlyn School of Social Realism in Cornwall, which itself borrowed from French Realism.
