Bromley OAM was an award-winning and pioneering Australian Abstract Expressionist. A multiple finalist in the Wynne Prize and Mosman Art Prize, Bromley was known for her interesting abstract expressionist landscapes, exhibiting alongside Weaver Hawkins, Ruth Faerber, Jean Isherwood, Reinis Zusters and Royston Harpur. In 1988 she received an Order Of Australia Medal for services to Visual Arts. Her works are represented in several important institutions including the Newcastle Regional Art Gallery & Bathurst Regional Art Gallery. This large, high quality abstract oil depicts Winter rime; frost formed on cold objects by rapid freezing of water vapour in cloud or fog. An incredible example of mid century abstract expressionism by an important Australian female artist, reminiscent of the work of American artist, Franz Kline.
