Benjamin was a significant British Abstract artist and member of the St. Ives movement of artists in Cornwall. His contemporaries and collaborators included Peter Lanyon, Barbara Hepworth & Ben Nicholson to name a few. He was referred to as a 'polymathic artist' by critic Rosemary Simmons in The Times in 1979. He was also an influential and inspirational art teacher. Later he collaborated with a former student, musician Brian Eno, to develop a series of screenprints visually paralleling Eno’s electronics. His works feature prominently in significant British and International collections, including Tate Britain.
